Twelve-steppers write:

A tome of love and spirituality, well penned by a gentle soul filled with both.
Harry D.

This book came to me at a time in my life when I was going through some difficult changes and they seemed to be happening at a fast rate of speed. As I read the meditations, the answers I needed started to appear. One meditation, especially, gave me the hope I needed. That, yes, I could and would reach that next level that I was aiming for. Am almost there. It is with gratitude that I can say "thank you", Michael, from the bottom of my heart, for writing this book that helped to show me the way I needed to go".

Since being on this journey of sobriety, one of my key supports is my home group. It resets my clock and, most days, makes me a better person for the next 24 hours. At the end of the day, I am blessed to be able to re-live that feeling of peace and serenity by reading Mike's reflections. These reflections are often prompted by something said at the meeting. I can picture the speaker. I can re-process their thoughts, my thoughts, and Mike's. Often the feelings Mike takes away from the meeting are completely different than mine. What a blessing to have my thoughts and benefit from Mike's as well. What a joy to be able to re-live those moments. Please enjoy them yourself.

ANGELS EXIST, but sometimes, since they don't all have wings. We call them FRIENDS, and Mike's writings show that he is in touch with the angels.

Skillfully painted word pictures offer enlightenment, encouragement and a sense of well-being to those in recovery.

These message are 'from the heart' and can only be the product of one who truly understands what each of us who is committed to seeking serenity feels. The author's spiritual insight into ordinary symbols and events makes these meditations unique and well worth contemplating. One of my favorites is developed around the adage, "The apple doesn't fall very far from the tree". We may be 'apples' who have fallen from the tree, and may have any number of bruises. But, within these thoughts is the implication that a tree, as a living thing, is growing and changing each day, and can produce healthy fruit through the healthy germination of ideas and the nurturing of their development. The reader will find 'germination' and 'nurturing' over and again in these pages.

From Mike's daily meditations, recovering alcoholics trying to achieve serenity in their lives or trying to find meaning or purpose in their programs will get true support and guidance grounded in the 12 steps. He shares his experience, strength and hope in a way that all of us can relate to. By providing wisdom from others, and his own life, there is something here for everyone. This is a wonderful daily tool for anyone seeking to enhance their program.

I am a Therapist for people who have alcohol and drug problems, have been in the practice of family and individual therapy, as well as group therapy, for the past 38 years. I have used some of the readings from Mike's book to set the tone for group sessions with professionals in early stages of recovery. These not only are used to start a particular thought or subject that I would like to deal with, but are also used as a form of meditation. I found these to be very helpful and have been therapeutic to many in my groups.
Julian S. Pickens, Ed.D.

I am a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor, and the Director of the Crossroads, a well-known Transitional Living Center for men and women in recovery, located in Phoenix, Arizona. I have had the privilege of reading many of Mike's meditations, and I just love them! Even more importantly, I believe they have great therapeutic value for myself and others like me who are in recovery. They are without question the best recovery meditations I have ever read.
